Now that the Beef InfoXchange System (BIXS) has launched to cow-calf producers nationwide, it's only a matter of time before BIXS-registered cattle come to market. BIXS cattle arriving from a farm or ranch cow-calf operation to an auction market offer buyers a number of solid benefits and opportunities. These perks include the ability to link the animal and carcass information to support branded beef programs including producer, retailer, packer and regional brands.

Calgary, AB – The Beef InfoXchange System (BIXS) is pleased to announce a new online cattle sales listing service for registered participants. Launched today at http://bixs-cattlelist.cattle.ca the BIXS Cattle-Classifieds enables program members to advertise upcoming auction market or private sales of their BIXS registered cattle to prospective buyers.
The online BIXS Cattle-Classifieds provides registered producers with an additional platform for building potential business relationships to bolster their marketing program for their BIXS cattle. Viewers can sort the listings by birthdate, weight, breed/cross, geographical location, implant status, vaccination date or other optional information entered by participants. The introduction of this service comes less than a month after BIXS launched to cow-calf producers nationwide.
Calgary, AB – The Canadian Cattlemen’s Association (CCA), in partnership with the Canadian Beef Breeds Council, is pleased to announce the official launch of the Beef InfoXchange System (BIXS) to cow-calf producers nationwide. The launch follows a successful phased-in process that ensured BIXS would be open to cow-calf producers in time for the 2011 fall calf run.
“This nationwide launch marks the successful conclusion of more than two years of effort to advance a concept developed by the CCA into the BIXS program”, said CCA President Travis Toews. BIXS is an individual animal and carcass data information exchange system developed by the CCA with funding provided through Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) Agriculture Flexibility Fund. AAFC Minister Gerry Ritz officially announced the funding contribution at the CCA annual meeting in March 2011.
The CCA has contracted Holly LaBrie as program administrator of the Beef InfoXchange System (BIXS). The daughter of Longview-area rancher John Cartwright, LaBrie grew up on a commercial operation and has a good understanding of the Canadian cow-calf industry.
The CCA launched the second phase of the Beef InfoXchange System (BIXS) to cow-calf producers in mid-August, slightly ahead of schedule. Phase 2 will involve nearly 100 cow-calf producers from across Canada.
The Beef InfoXchange System (BIXS) has begun a phased launch to cow-calf producers. The first of three launch stages will see a limited number of beef producers invited to register, log-on and submit their individual animal data to BIXS. This strategic approach provides the opportunity to gauge system functionality in real-time and identify and remedy any technical issues prior to a full-scale roll-out of the system across Canada this fall.
Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz dropped by the CCA Annual General Meeting in Ottawa to announce more than $8 million in funding to help Canadian cattle farmers improve their profitability and competitiveness. The investment sees $5.3 million in AgriFlexibility funds earmarmarked for the Beef InfoXchange System (BIXS), $2.5 million in funds from the Agri-Innovations Program for the Beef Science Cluster and $364,000 from Growing Forward for the CCA's on-farm food safety program, the Verified Beef Production program.
