Feedlots

The feedlot interface for the BIXS program is still being developed and more details will become available shortly. For the early launch period feedlots will input individual animal data/information to BIXS directly via web services, by csv file upload or through an event entry portlet. Setting these systems in place is underway. In the meantime, feedlots will be able to register onto BIXS.

Feedlots interested in participating in BIXS are strongly urged, even prior to having the ability to upload data into the system, to collect and store the following information on cattle entering their feedlot they intend to enroll in BIXS:

  • CCIA (RFID) tag numbers of individual animals.
  • Date the individual animals arrived at the feedlot.
  • Weight of the individual animals linked to the CCIA tag number as they arrive at the feedlot (can be an individual animal weighed, estimate or grouped average).
  • Animal Health Score – our development team continues working on the most robust and effective method of scoring the animal’s health status while in the feedlot. A standardized score may have merit, but it’s likely a more informative solution will be developed and deployed in BIXS in the coming months.

This information is part of the required bundle of information for feedlots to participate in BIXS.
Finishing and backgrounding feedlots will be able to enroll their cattle onto BIXS regardless of the animal’s BIXS status upon entry to the feedlot. All feedlots must submit at least the required information listed above on all cattle they enroll in BIXS.

Please visit the BIXS site regularly to keep up to date on launch developments related to feedlots and news updates.
