Feedlots

The feedlot interface for the BIXS program is still being developed and more details will become available shortly. For the early launch period feedlots will input individual animal data/information to BIXS directly via web services, by csv file upload or through an event entry portlet. Setting these systems in place is underway. In the meantime, feedlots will be able to register onto BIXS.

Feedlots interested in participating in BIXS are strongly urged, even prior to having the ability to upload data into the system, to collect and store the following information on BIXS cattle entering their feedlot:

  • CCIA tag numbers of individual animals.
  • Date the individual animals arrived at the feedlot.
  • Weight of the individual animals linked to the CCIA tag number as they arrive at the feedlot.
  • Animal Health Score – this is a standardized one to five scoring of animal treatment/health history enabling subsequent statistical analysis. At the animal’s feedlot Move-out Event the animal’s health history is scored thus:
    • No Treatment (pulls) = 5
    • One treatment (pulls) = 4
    • Two treatments (pulls) = 3
    • Chronic = 2
    • Dead (mortality) = 1

This information is part of the required bundle of information for feedlots to participate in BIXS.

Please visit the BIXS site regularly to keep up to date on launch developments related to feedlots and news updates.
